Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski has taken his tally to 23 goals this season after he scored the winning goal during the German Bundesliga clash with Freiburg.The Polish international scored the winner against Freiburg to boost his FIFA Ballon D’or Award credentials for this year and also extend the lead for Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
Lewandowski has been a goal machine over the past seasons and he was rewarded for his efficiency in front of goal with the 2019 FIFA Ballon D’or Award ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Bayern Munich star won the award, while Manchester United attacker Ronaldo and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) superstar Messi finished second and third respectively.
Polish striker Lewandowski is one of the favourites to win the Ballon D’or Award this year largely due to his exploits at Bayern Munich. He broke the record of German football great Gerd Muller for the most goals scored in a single Bundesliga season last year when he netted 41 goals as his team sealed another league title.
For the Freiburg game, German midfielder Leon Goretzka established a slender lead for Bayern at the break with his goal on the half hour mark. Lewandowski added a second goal on 75 minutes before the visitors pulled one back through JanikHaberer in the third minute of stoppage time. Lewandowski was the recipient of the winning goal in a 2-1 win at home to Freiburg for Bayern Munich and he took his league tally to 13 goals plus one assist in 11 games. He has 23 goals and one assist in 17 games in all competitions this season.
Bayern Munich goalscoring machine Lewandowski has the most goals in the Champions League group stage this season with eight scored in just four games.
